How often should my chimney be swept?
All chimneys and flues should be swept at least once a year, regardless of whether they serve an open fire, traditional appliance, modern stove or wood burner.
A lined chimney still needs sweeping too. Regular sweeping removes soot and other deposits, helping your appliance operate safely and efficiently.
Some appliances and fuels may require more frequent sweeping, particularly when they are in continuous use:
- Smokeless fuels: At least once a year
- Wood: Once every three months when in continuous use
- Bituminous coal: Once every three months when in continuous use
- Oil: Once a year
- Gas: Once a year
If you are unsure how often your chimney should be swept, please ask when booking and I will be happy to advise.
